Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is RAID data recovery and how does Data Clinic recover RAID data?
RAID data recovery is the process of restoring data from a failed or corrupted RAID array. At the Data Clinic, our engineers create sector-level images of each drive, analyse the RAID configuration and safely rebuild the array before extracting your data. This approach protects your files and avoids further damage.
2. Can Data Clinic recover data from a failed RAID or server system?
Yes. Data Clinic regularly recovers data from failed RAID arrays and servers, even in complex cases involving multiple drive failures or corrupted RAID configurations. Our team works with business-critical systems across the UK, including Dell, HP and enterprise server environments.
3. Should I attempt a RAID rebuild before contacting the Data Clinic?
No. Attempting a RAID rebuild can permanently overwrite data and reduce recovery success. Data Clinic strongly recommends powering down the system and speaking to a RAID recovery specialist first, so your data can be assessed and recovered safely.
4. What causes RAID and server data loss that Data Clinic can recover from?
Data Clinic recovers data lost due to RAID disk failures, controller faults, failed rebuilds, corrupted configurations, deleted partitions, system crashes and power-related issues. Early diagnosis significantly improves recovery outcomes.
5. How long does RAID data recovery take with a Data Clinic?
Recovery times depend on the RAID level, number of failed drives and severity of the issue. Data Clinic offers standard, priority and emergency RAID recovery services, with emergency cases handled 24/7 to minimise downtime for businesses.
Real RAID Recovery Case Studies
Every failed RAID array tells a story. Here are two real examples of how Data Clinic brought critical business data back from the brink — and got operations back online fast.
Emergency Recovery
RAID 5 Failure During Peak Production — Manufacturing Firm, West Midlands
The situation: A precision engineering firm called Data Clinic at 07:30 on a Monday. Their Dell PowerEdge R730 server had gone offline overnight after two drives failed within hours of each other. CNC machine programs, production schedules, and client order data were all inaccessible — the production floor was at a standstill.
The challenge: The company’s IT team had already attempted a RAID rebuild through the onboard Perc H730 controller, which had stalled at 14% and corrupted parity data across three remaining drives. Standard imaging software could not reliably read two of the disks.
What Data Clinic did: Our engineers collected the drives the same morning via DBS-certified courier. In the lab, we created sector-level images of all six drives using specialised hardware, bypassing damaged sectors. We then reconstructed the RAID array virtually — without touching the originals — identifying stripe size, block order, and parity rotation manually. The NTFS file system was intact on the virtual rebuild and all data extracted cleanly.

Priority Recovery
RAID 6 Controller Failure — Legal Practice, London
The situation: A mid-sized London law firm contacted Data Clinic after their HP ProLiant DL380 server went offline following a power outage. The RAID controller (Smart Array P408i-a) had failed and the server no longer recognised the array. With active client case files, court deadlines, and years of archived matter data on the system, the firm faced both operational and GDPR exposure.
The challenge: The controller failed mid-write during the power cut, corrupting the RAID configuration metadata. Two of the eight drives also showed physical stress — one generating reallocated sector errors, another with a partial firmware hang. Simply fitting a replacement controller without first imaging all drives would have been catastrophic.
What Data Clinic did: Working on Priority service, our team imaged all eight drives, resolved the firmware issues on the two compromised disks, and performed full virtual reconstruction of the RAID 6 array. We identified the correct parameters (256 KB chunk size, backwards parity rotation) and rebuilt the XFS file system layer. A complete file list was verified by the firm’s IT manager before data was returned on encrypted drives with full chain of custody.
