Apple Mac Data Recovery
iMac and Macbook Hard Drive Repair and Recovery
With 20 years of specialist Mac data recovery experience, we are confident in our ability to recover your Mac data from almost any type of data loss situation. It doesn’t matter whether your data is on an iMac, MacBook, Powerbook or iPad – if it’s retrievable, we’ll be able to rescue it.
The HFS and HFS+ file systems used by the Apple Mac to reference data stored on their hard drives are very different to the FAT and NTFS file systems used by Microsoft operating systems. Due to these differences, HFS & HFS+ data recovery methods and techniques are quite different to that of Windows systems.
For these specific reasons Data Clinic have developed specific Mac recovery tools and procedures that enable us to recover data from many Mac data loss situations. These tools and procedures are unique and have been developed in house to address the complications of Mac data recovery and hard drive repair.
Typical errors where Data Clinic can perform a full recovery of data are –
- Cannot access because a disk error occurred.
- This disk is unreadable by this computer. Do you want to initialize the disk?
- The disk cannot be accessed because a disk error occurred
- Segment Loader Error
- No such volume
- Bad file name
- Not a Macintosh disk
- Bad master directory block
- Drive not installed
- R/W requested for an off-line drive
- Directory not found
- Not an HFS volume
- Internal file system error
(This list is by no means exhaustive there are other error messages that you may encounter. Links: Hard Drive Recovery explained and What is Hard Drive Failure?…)
iPhone and iPad Recovery
In addition to Macbook, iMac and Powerbook recovery, we can also repair and retrieve the data from damaged and broken iPhones and iPads. We’ve a separate page on iPhone and iPad recovery here.
MacBooks from 2016
In 2016 Apple began to rollout laptops with SSD’s that were soldered directly onto the motherboard. Then they introduced the T2 security chip which locked down the laptops even further. At around the same time Apple also removed the very handy Data Migration connector from their motherboards. This makes data recovery on current Macbooks rather tricky. Fortunately we’ve found a way around most of the problems and can recover data from these devices. You can learn more about these changes here: https://www.dataclinic.co.uk/soldered-macbook-ssds-and-the-t2-security-chip/.
Regional Recovery Centres
We have data recovery centres in many parts of the UK as well as operating a countrywide collection and delivery service for those of you who are not close to any of our branches. You are welcome to call in and see us, or we can arrange a free nationwide collection on your behalf from anywhere in the UK.

Why You Should Choose Us
Data Clinic have been successfully recovering data for businesses and home users since 2002 and were one of the first data recovery companies in the UK. Through our active research and development programme we now have tools and procedures enabling us to repair and recover data from drives where other companies can not.
If you have a data recovery requirement we’d obviously like you to contact us in the first instance – as having a company who are unskilled in data recovery (like a local computer shop or Apple Store) have a look at your system first can often cause your hard drive more harm than good. So, if one of these places have told you your data is not recoverable, please speak to us as there may well be something we can do.
