Data Clinic’s Step-by-Step Phone Recovery Process (Levels 1, 2 & 3)
When your phone is no longer functioning, won’t charge, or has been damaged, it is not always evident what type of repair or recovery is required. Data Clinic uses a three-stage recovery process to help you maximize your chances of recovering your photos, contacts, messages, and other valuable data.
Whether you need to restore deleted photos from your phone, restore data from a broken or dead phone, or know how long phone recovery is, here’s how we work:
Level 1 Phone Recovery – Common Issues & Quick Fixes
Level 1 recoveries work on the larger, outer parts of your phone like the screen, charging port, battery, and buttons.
- Suitable for: phones with broken screens, bad charging ports, or broken cases.
- Approximately 60% of phones we encounter are recovered successfully at Level 1.
- At this level, your phone is repaired sufficiently for us to reach your information.
Tip: Level 1 fees are refundable irrespective of success.
Level 2 Phone Recovery – Internal Component & Chip Repairs
If Level 1 fixes fail, we proceed to Level 2. This level entails complex board-level work on the internal elements of the phone including the CPU, EEPROM, and memory chips.
- Required for: phones that are liquid damaged, burnt, run over, or bent severely.
- More technical and involved than Level 1, but necessary in many damaged phones.
- Level 2 charges are refundable only if recovery is a success.
That’s usually the level needed to retrieve data from dead or damaged phones.
Level 3 Phone Recovery – Chip-Off Data Extraction
If Levels 1 and 2 don’t work, Level 3 is called upon. This entails a “chip-off” operation, where the critical chips are extracted from your phone’s motherboard and implanted into an operational board so we can pull out the data.
- Very sophisticated and labor-intensive process.
- Prices differ based on the model and brand of your phone.
- Sometimes the only possibility is to restore erased photos, videos, and documents from badly broken devices.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Your phone will be taken apart during the process of recovery.
- You will not be returned an operational phone.
- Your data recovered will be returned on a secure memory stick.
- Each recovery level increases the likelihood of success, but outcomes depend on the extent of the damage.

Here is the process we use to recover the data from your phone explained in more depth.
1. Contact us either by calling 0800 151 2207 or using the ‘Get A Quote’ button above.
2. We will need your phone…
(a) We can collect it from any UK address for free, or
(b) You can post it to us, or
(c) You can drop it off at a Data Clinic location close to you
3. If the problem is straightforward and related to the screen, buttons, charging port or the battery, we will recover your data at Level 1 for £195 + parts + memory stick + VAT. The data will be recovered to a memory stick.
4. If the problem is more serious and not recoverable at Level 1 then you can proceed to our Level 2 processes to safely recover your data. The cost for the Level 2 recovery is an additional £195 + VAT but is payable only if we successfully recover your data.
5. We return everything back to you, a shipping fee may apply depending on which recovery service you choose. Due to tamperproof manufacturing techniques your phone will most likely be returned in a non working and dismantled state.
