Year on year, you will store more and more data….
You will take more pictures…
You will download and listen to more music…
You will download and watch more films…
Where are you going to put it all ?????
Conventional hard drives – the ones that spin – are getting bigger and bigger – not in terms of physical size, but rather in the amount of data they can hold. It’s now possible to get a 3TB conventional hard drive for not that much money… And 3TB is huge – I mean really big…. You could store tens of thousands of audio albums, thousands of movies, hundreds of thousands of photos on one of these things.
Any many people do.
Solid state drives store less information – a lot less – my MacBook Air has a 128GB hard disk which is tiny by comparison. However, it’s nowhere near full. All my music, pics and videos are stored on a conventional external hard disk as there is not enough room on the solid state drive. My pics and vids are also stored online offsite – just in case I drop my external hard disk. My music is mostly streamed.
The trend these days is that people have a lot of data stored – far more than they used to – and this is going to increase year on year, because people will take more pictures, and download more films and music. Solid state drives do not have the storage capacity to hold this information – only conventional hard drives can do this at the moment. So conventional hard drives will be with us for a good while yet simply because solid state drives can not keep up with people’s storage hungry requirements.
