Data Clinic's Photography Competition Page
Do you read Advanced Photographer or use PurplePort or 28DL ?
Hello and a very warm welcome to all the readers of Advanced Photographer magazine and users of PurplePort and 28 Days Later... Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our web page.
Each month we're going to provide you with some free tips and advice on keeping your precious photographic data safe and how, by following best practice, you can minimise the need for having to use a data recovery service should something go wrong. We are also running a monthly photographic competition where you can win a backup device for your photos - see the bottom of the page to enter.
A little bit about us
1. Data Recovery Services
This is the recovery of data from inaccessible digital media such as hard disks and camera cards.
Like most people with a large amount of data, you probably back your data up to an external hard drive. But what happens if this hard drive suddenly stops working and you are no longer able to access your data?
We often find that external hard drives are dropped, knocked, bashed or have the wrong power cable connected to them. The results are often the same: the data on the hard drive becomes inaccessible and it's necessary to use a data recovery service in order to get the data back..
2. Data Backup Services
The need for data recovery can be virtually removed by implementing a robust and considered data backup strategy: simply having your photographs backed up to an external hard disk is neither of these !!
We can recommend the correct approach you should take depending upon a variety of factors including how much data you wish to backup and the frequency you wish to access it. We can also supply the equipment and implement the strategy for you.
June's Data Backup Tip
Having an external hard drive that acts as a 'catch all' device and is used to backup the valuable data from all the computers in your house or office is a decent first step to take in backup. Don't make it your only step though as external hard drives are notorious for being dropped...
June's Data Recovery Tip
If your hard drive is making a ticking noise and is no longer recognised by the computer, chances are it has a serious mechanical fault. Problems like this require expert attention in a clean room. You can read more about hard disk faults here.
