How it works

Designed by our UK-based recovery engineers. Three quick steps — no signup, no payment, no obligation.

1

Tell us about your device

Answer a few targeted questions about the symptoms (clicking, dropped, not detected, water damage, RAID failure…). Takes about 60 seconds.

2

Get a tailored diagnosis

The tool classifies the likely fault, tells you whether it’s safe to try software recovery, and warns you when stopping is essential.

3

Arrange free UK collection

If you want us to recover the data, request a free DPD collection. We’ll diagnose in the lab and give you a fixed quote — No Data, No Fee.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the diagnostic tool take?
Most people complete it in under 60 seconds. There are usually only 4–6 questions, depending on your device. You can also download or print your results for reference.
Is the tool really free? Will I be charged?
Yes — the diagnostic tool is 100% free, with no signup and no payment details required. If you decide to send your device to our lab, we offer free UK collection and a free in-lab diagnosis. You only pay if we successfully recover your data, under our No-Data-No-Fee policy on completed recoveries.
What devices can the tool diagnose?
Internal and external hard drives (HDD), SSDs, RAID arrays, NAS units (Synology, QNAP, Drobo, Buffalo and more), iPhones and Android phones, USB memory sticks, SD/CF/XQD memory cards, and Mac internal storage. RAID and NAS faults always route directly to our specialist team.
What happens after I submit my details?
A Data Clinic engineer reviews your diagnostic answers and contacts you — usually within a few working hours — with a recommended next step. If collection is the right path, we arrange a free DPD pickup from anywhere in the UK and confirm everything in writing.
How quickly can you recover my data?
We offer three turnaround tiers: Standard (5–20 working days), Priority (2–5 working days) and Emergency (typically 24–48 hours, including weekends for critical business cases). The tool helps recommend the right tier for your situation.
My drive is making a clicking sound — what should I do right now?
Power it off immediately and do not plug it back in. Clicking, grinding or buzzing is almost always a physical head or motor problem. Every minute it’s powered on increases the risk of permanent platter damage. Run the diagnostic above for tailored guidance, or call 0800 151 2207 straight away.
Will my data stay private and secure?
Yes. Data Clinic is ICO-registered and has been handling confidential recoveries since 2002 for clients including the BBC, Sony, Tesco, HSBC and Williams F1. All work is carried out in our UK lab in Bury, Manchester. We can sign NDAs for sensitive or commercial jobs on request.
