Data Recovery from Fujitsu MPA / MPB / MPC & MPD hard disk families

Overview: Some early models of Fujitsu desktop hard disks have common specific failure symptoms. These symptoms apply to hard drives of the following families:

  • MPA (eg. MPA3035AT)
  • MPB (eg. MPB3043AT)
  • MPC (eg. MPC3064AT)
  • MPD (eg. MPD3084AT)

Symptoms:

  • The drive is recognised correctly by the computer
  • The data structure (files / folders) can be seen, but not copied
  • The storage capacity of the drive is reported incorrectly

Cause & Recovery Possibilities: There are a variety of opinions as to the root cause of this failure. Fortunately, failed drives are often repairable and the data they contain therefore recoverable.

What if I have one of these drives but the symptoms are different?: This is quite possible as they are prone to all the other problems hard disks suffer from ie. mechnical failure, logical failure, bad sectors etc.
