Recovering data from Western Digital WD10TMVV hard disk drives

Information: Western Digital's 1TB WD10TMVV hard drives pose an interesting problem to all data recovery companies. Not only do some of these drives come with an encryption facility that, if enabled, makes recovering the data virtually impossible, they also use a micro USB or SATA 3 interface to connect to the host rather than the usual SATA interface. This further complicates matters as it means that accessing the drive's firmware zone becomes extremely tricky as different facilities are needed in order to achieve this.

So, whether the data from the drive is recoverable or not depends upon the type of failure symptoms it exhibits and the type of recovery procedure necessary to recover the data.

These drives are obviously susceptible to all the usual types of hard drive problems and failures, and are often recoverable as the work necessary to recover them does not involve accessing the drive's internal parameter. Please contact us for further information.

Typical failure symptoms on WD10TMVV hard drives:

• The drive is completely dead
• The drive is still recognised but is slow and unresponsive - The drive is suffering from media degradation, otherwise known as bad sectors
