Common failure symptoms

  • The drive will appear completely dead and refuse to power up - When the computer is powered on, the hard disk will not be detected by the BIOS, will not be seen in Windows and will not be spinning. Drive failures with these symptoms are often caused by electronic problems on the hard drive.
  • The drive will make a ticking sound - When the drive receives power and disk will make a repetitive ticking sound, it will not be detected in the BIOS and will not be detected in Windows. These failure symptoms are indicative of a mechanical failure on the hard drive.
