Common failure symptoms of WD Caviar Black hard drives

The drive does not power up and is not recognised in the BIOS - When the computer boots, it will not see the hard drive. The hard drive will also appear dead - it wil not be spinning and no noises will come from it.
The drive makes a clicking sound when powered on - This will last for 10 - 15 seconds and be repetitive in nature. The clicking will then stop and the drive will not be recognised.
The drive begins to run slowly - The whole performance of the machine is compromised, eg. opening files takes a long time, the disk's directory structure becomes difficult to navigate, etc
