Data Recovery and failure symptoms: Maxtor DiamondMax 10 hard disk drives

Drives in the DiamondMax 10 family:

Serial ATA (SATA) 150 & 8Mb cache: 6B080M0, 6B120M0, 6B160M0, 6B200M0
SATA 150 & 16Mb cache: 6B250S0, 6B300S0
ATA 133 & 8Mb cache: 6B160P0, 6B200P0
ATA 133 & 16Mb cache: 6B250R0, 6B300R0

Identification: An IDE or SATA hard drive with a shiny metallic top and a white Maxtor label in the centre. The "DiamondMax 10" label can be found at the top right on the hard disk. The model number is located towards the bottom left.

Symptoms:
1. When the computer is powered on the BIOS will identify the drive as MAXTOR FALCON or
2. When the computer is powered on the BIOS will fail to identify the drive, or
3. When the computer is powered on it will fail to start and a knocking noise (produced by the hard disk) will be heard

Cause: DiamondMax 10 drives that are recognised as "MAXTOR FALCON" in the BIOS have often sustained damage to their firmware zone.

Recovery possibilities: Data Clinic are often able to perform a full data recovery on Maxtor DiamondMax 10 hard disk with firmware zone corruption

What if I have one of these drives but the symptoms are different?: This is quite possible, Maxtor Diamondmax 10 hard drives are still prone to all the other problems hard disks suffer from ie. mechanical failure, logical failure, bad sectors etc.

What should I do?: Call the Data Clinic and talk your problem through with us on 0870 140 2525, or fill out our auto-form and we'll call you back

Please note that all modern hard disk drives are manufactured to very high standards, fail infrequently and have very similar rates of reliability.
