Western Digital Data Recovery
UK Wide Data Retrieval and Recovery from Western Digital (WD) Hard Disk Drives
Do You Need To Get The Data Off A Broken WD Hard Drive ?
Data Clinic are experts at recovering computer data from all types of Western Digital hard disk drive. It doesn’t matter whether the drive is from a Server, PC, Mac or an external hard disk drive like a WD Passport, in all instances we are often able to access the drive and fully recover the all data.
Common Failure Symptoms On Western Digital Hard Disk Drives
1. The hard drive runs slowly and accessing the files and folders is sometimes not possible
A common problem on hard drives – not just Western Digital disks, this problem is caused by the data on the disk becoming unreadable. This can be due to the age of the drive, wear and tear, or poor manufacture. It’s a problem that spreads quite quickly so we always recommend that the drive is powered off in order to preserve the data. We also recommend that disk checking programs like Scandisk and Chkdsk are not run as they will cause further damage and decrease the chances of successfully recovering the data.
2. The hard drive is no longer seen by the computer
The disk will no longer be visible to the computer and sometimes (particularly on external hard drives) there with be an audible ticking noise. Alternatively, the drive may appear completely dead and not even spin. Failure symptoms like these strongly suggest that the hard drive has an electro-mechanical problem. Often the recovery will involve the drive being worked on in our cleanroom.
3. Some files and folders have been deleted and you need them back
Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with the hard disk – rather it’s human error, a software bug or virus that has caused the problem. Successfully recovering the data often involves repair the data structures on the hard drive and then piecing together the files and folders.
The Data Clinic Difference
We are a professional data recovery company and have been since 2002. Recovering data is all we do, and with over 10 years experience we are good at it.
We are not a PC shop or IT company. These types of organisation deal with faulty hard drives rarely and have little if any data recovery experience, so if you’ve been told by one of these places that the data on your hard drive is not recoverable, this information could well be wrong. Contact us, we’ll ask you a few questions and be quickly able to identify if the data on your drive has a chance of recovery.

Data Clinic also has an extensive range of information and articles on Western Digital data recovery for you to read. You can access them using the drop-down menu on the top right of the page.
Slow Responding Western Digital Hard Drives
Is your Western Digital hard drive running slowly or not even showing up on your computer? Click for further information about how we recover the data from these slow responding hard drives.
Apparent Fault on WD WD1002FBYS Drives
We’ve seen several WD1002FBYS hard disks over the last few months and noticed a common issue with them. It seems that if power is removed from the drive abruptly the drive “kicks back” and moves the head assembly so violently that pairs of heads twist and dig in to both the relevant platter surfaces leaving a “half moon” scratch across a large extent of the platter radius. If you have one of these drives please contact us.
Case Study
Here’s a case study where we retrieve the files from a broken WD WD10TMVW hard drive with 2 specific problems using some pretty advanced techniques: https://www.dataclinic.co.uk/data-recovery-on-a-1tb-western-digital-wd10tmvw/.
